Indivisible by Jessica McQuinn

I can’t begin to express how excited I am to be participating in today’s Book Brew! And the “Uniforms that Protect Us” topic is so great! I have always had a fascination with men in uniform, and to get the chance to present my new book, Indivisible – available 1/25/2011, to you all in this venue just makes me insanely happy!

My name is Jessica McQuinn, and Indivisible is my second novel with Omnific Publishing, but my first solo effort. I am a stay-at-home mom who has always loved reading and writing. Last year when both of my kids were finally in school, I found that I had a lot of time to spend doing both of those things. I fell into writing and couldn’t stop. Indivisible is the result of that alone time.

As I said, I’ve always loved a hero, so writing a story about a Navy SEAL was only a matter of time for me! Indivisible is a story that allowed me to build a strong, protective man, but also a female character who has to be just as strong.

Charlie and Gideon Cooper’s story begins where most romance stories end: at the happily ever after. Gideon’s protective nature makes Charlie feel safe and happy in her new life as the wife of a Navy SEAL—until her happily comes crashing down around her. And though she’s surrounded by loving family and friends, instead of pulling together in the wake of Charlie’s ordeal, their secrets and wrong perceptions threaten to break them all apart. The experience will test the bond they share and determine whether Charlie and Gideon are truly Indivisible.

I’ll be popping in throught the day today (the whole SAHM thing…) and would love to hear from you all! I will be  posting some excerpts during the day too. Any questions or comments that you have, please leave them. OH! And at the end of the day (we’ll say 10pm Pacific Time so you late people can get in on things too!) I will randomly pick 2 people who left a comment or question and I will be giving two signed copies of Indivisible along with some other little pretties.

I’m so happy to be a part of this today and hope that you all will help make this a great event today!

Jessica, this sounds like a great novel! I look forward to reading it and drooling over your man in uniform.

Did you have to do much research to write about being a SEAL? Thanks!

Jen, Thanks so much for stopping by! I know that you like a man in uniform (I still love me some Grant!). I hope that you will like Gideon. I’m kind of attached to him!

    CJ,

Well, the story focuses more on the realtionship of Gideon and Charlie than about being a SEAL (though there are several glimpses of Gideon being protector SEAL). I have life experience with dealing with a Navy man who leaves for months at a time, so a lot of that was based on my own experiences. That being said, I picked my husband’s brain for the SEAL details (he’s former Navy and eats up anything having to do with the military, and he’s actually the one who gave me the little detail about Gideon’s “hidden tattoo”). But I did back up what my husband told me with research into things like how a SEAL team is formed.
There will definitely be more SEAL detail in the next book…

    Thank you, Jessica!

I’ve always loved books about men in uniforms, and I know I’m far from the only one… What do you think makes them so popular with female readers?

    Great question, Jenny.

In my interview, I talk about the fact that these men (and women) are willing to put their lives on the line everyday for people that they don’t know and have never met, so the idea of what they would do for those they love is just amazing.

I also think that Hollywood helps us out here too. Every generation has that iconic military movie that had us all swooning. Who among us didn’t hyperventalate a little during the volleyball scene of Top Gun? (Or maybe even yell something totally inappropriate like, “I want to have your children” – but we can’t judge…)
