I am sure some of you have tween and teen girls or grand daughters but this recommendation isn’t just for the YA set. I read and enjoyed the books before I passed them on to my grand daughters. For the younger girls (under 15 maybe) a bit of discussion with mom or grandma might be in order due to a few more mature themes covered but they are tame compared to a lot of TV fare etc!
I am talking about the fantasy tales of Tamora Pierce, especially The Song of the Lioness quartet which I particularly enjoyed but she also has several other series. The good folks do win and the girls are strong and well-rounded characters. In Lioness, the heroine starts out pretending to be her brother so she can train to be a knight. Magic abounds and the world in which the stories take place is well rounded and so vividly real you feel as if you were right there! I loved these books. Check them out if you don’t have to have extreme heat with your fantasy; there is romance and even sex but it is very mildly and tastefully done since these are basically YA books. Cannot recommend them enough!

14 years agoI like YA books and I read them before I let my daughters. It sounds like something I would read but if there is sex, I wont let my daughters. Thanks for the recommendation.
