What does Steampunk mean to you? Thinking of steam punk, envision the TV series, Wild, Wild, West with Robert Conrad and Ross Martin. What you haven’t seen the show? Shame on you, but since I’m in a great mood I’ll share with you. Here is the link to YouTube they actually have a couple shows there.wild west 2

Think James Bond in the wild wild west with all his gizmos, the Steam-power machinery. These items or gadgets is what steampunk is all about.

steampunk11What is your favorite thing about steampunk or writing about steampunk? I love to create new things. My imagination thinks this as a treat, so many little ideals floating around in there. Think of all those gadgets you can take into the new world you build. Do you remember the movie 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea? What a great use of steampunk to create his new universe under the water. A 1954 movie with, Kirk Douglass. To think this writer was already working with steampunk is an amazing thing itself.

What is your favorite steampunk accessory? Clothes and the machines you can create. I love the different clothes I’ve seen that people have created.

What turned you on to steampunk? The sci-fi aspect is my favorite thing when it comes to this genre. Just imagine creating monsters for your story. Machine powered spiders.

Do you have any upcoming Steampunk stories you can tell us about? Nope nothing yet, I have too many other projects to finish first. But I just might have to do one about spiders, hmm a horror one.

Steampunk SpiderWho is your favorite character of all from one of your Steampunk stories? Kyle Vanderbelt, very alpha, and a vampire, was such a challenge to work with.

What’s the hardest thing about creating a Steampunk universe? Keeping track of everything, one must keep a notepad at hand so you know what you have already created. One must remember each different word you create for your objects. I don’t know about anyone else, but making up new words is not fun.

What’s the easiest thing about creating a Steampunk universe? Nothing is off limits with this category. It’s even impossible to imagine all the different themes one can create.

What does steampunk allow you to do as a writer that no other genres can? Get to go way out there, the ideas can be far-fetched and they work! Just think of the stories you could do with this picture.

What are the challenges and advantages to writing a steampunk story? Keeping things straight is my biggest challenge. The advantage would have to be being able to create new worlds.

How much research does it take and how much imagination. I believe it’s more imagination than anything. Sure there has to be some research. Even the simplest idea comes from what has already been.

I have always loved books but discovered romance books later in life while home with a sick child thanks to my best friend, Brenda. It didn't take long to meet up with Karen and learn that we shared a lot more than a love of books. We are sisters in spirt who want to help people spread the word about books. KarenneLyn is the web designer of Coffee Time Romance and several other sites. This wonderful exploration of her creative side has become a fun thing to learn and opened the door to meeting some wonderful people.

Enjoyed your interview. I love reading steampunk because each author creates new gadgets, customs and costumes to develop their characters and plot. So it’s like finding the surprise in Cracker Jacks. You never know what you’ll get!

Various ways authors are able to create new inventions with many different purposes included in each device. Steam propelled devices are always cleverly inserted which keeps me interested. Thank you for an interesting response to blog questions.
